Singer, famous for songs like You Send Me and Chain Gang. Died from gunshot wounds under mysterious circumstances. Apparently, the married Cooke picked up a young woman at a party and gave her a ride home. But, instead, he took her to a Watts motel, checked in with her as "Mr. & Mrs. Cooke" and, supposedly rape the her. When he was in the bathroom, she took off with his clothing. An angry Cooke went to the manager's office, where he banged on the door, clad only in a raincoat and shoes, looking for the girl he had been with. He ended up breaking the door down and the female motel manager shot him.
