d. October 11, 1952 Prolific MGM director from the silents through the forties. Directed
several of Jean Harlow's pictures (Redheaded Woman, Libeled
Lady, The Girl From Missouri and her final movie, Saratoga)
and Clark Gable's (The Easiest Way, Too Hot To Handle
and The Hucksters). He also helped direct the original A
Star Is Born with Janet Gaynor, though was uncredited. He also
directed Robert Taylor in A Yank at Oxford and Joan Crawford
